Transfers made to order: on MYA plate

You Receive 1 Fresh 100mm MYA dish of Hericium americanum mycelium ready for your further expansion.

A beautiful, tasty, and efficient Hericium americanum phenotype from the Western Foothills of Maine. This culture was foraged in an old growth in Early September 2024. My first of the two "HA-OG_s" and the best cooperating of the two.

HA-OG1 is a close relative of Lion’s Mane, a Bear’s Head mushroom. These produce beautiful cascading clusters of long white spines that branch more than Lions Mane.

In the wild this species grows on hardwood trees across the northeastern forests of North America. Under cultivation it produces dense, branching fruit bodies with excellent texture and flavor, making it a prized gourmet and medicinal mushroom.

Cultivation Overview

Bear’s Head mushrooms grow best on hardwood-based substrates, such as supplemented sawdust blocks or hardwood pellet substrate. Like other Hericium species, they appreciate steady humidity and good fresh air exchange to form well-developed spines.

Fruiting Conditions

Temperature:
55–75°F

Humidity:
70–95% relative humidity during fruiting.

Light:
Indirect or diffused light is sufficient.

Fresh Air Exchange:
Moderate to high airflow encourages proper spine formation and prevents dense coral-like growth.

Characteristics

• Wild Maine genetics
• Cascading branching fruit bodies
• Long icicle-like spines
• Gourmet and medicinal mushroom
• Closely related to Lion’s Mane

Ideal For

• Gourmet mushroom growers
• Mycology hobbyists
• Hericium species collectors
• Agar and culture work
• Hardwood substrate cultivation

Bear’s Head mushrooms bring a unique look and flavor to any grow setup and are a fantastic species for growers interested in diversifying beyond Lion’s Mane.
